Chesterfield County residents can now sign up for a comprehensive digital notification system covering everything from emergency alerts to library blog updates, part of the county’s ongoing effort to improve communication with its nearly 400,000 residents.

The Notify Me service allows subscribers to customize exactly what information they receive and how they receive it, with options for both email and text message delivery. The system organizes notifications into three main categories: alerts, calendar events, and news updates.

For residents concerned about safety and emergencies, the Alert Center offers subscriptions to announcements and advisories affecting community services, as well as office and facility closure updates. The county directs residents seeking emergency notifications to enroll separately in Chesterfield Alert, the county’s dedicated emergency notification system.

The calendar notification system covers community activities and special events, government dates and deadlines including tax and election schedules, health initiatives and wellness events, parks and recreation programming, public meeting schedules with agendas, and public safety notices.

Perhaps the most extensive category is the News Flash system, which offers subscriptions to breaking news from county departments, the official Chesterfield on Point blog, community enhancement updates and grant information, library news and the Check It Out blog, parks and recreation highlights, planning department updates on development and zoning cases, police news on crime and events, official Board of Supervisors hearings and legal notices, transportation project updates and traffic alerts, and information on Western Area capital improvement projects.

To sign up, residents enter their email address and phone number through the county’s CivicEngage platform. Those opting for text messages should note that standard messaging rates apply. The system allows users to select specific lists rather than receiving all county communications, and subscribers can modify their preferences or unsubscribe at any time.

The planning department notifications may prove particularly valuable for residents tracking development in their neighborhoods, as the system promises updates on zoning cases and community meetings. Transportation alerts could help commuters navigate construction zones and traffic disruptions.

Residents can access the Notify Me service through the county website. The system represents one component of Chesterfield’s broader digital engagement strategy as the county continues to grow.
